Our journey began when we purchased a Workhorse 1969, sight unseen, nearly three years ago and paid in full. Then, the wait began…
Luckily, time went quickly as preparations to house “our steed” began. We removed an old playset left in our backyard by the previous owners of our house, excavated and leveled a large area of rock and dirt, laid down gravel/sand/pavers, and then built an outdoor gazebo. It was completed in early April ’21 and we affectionately named it “The Smoke Shack”. By chance, shortly thereafter, we sourced some well-seasoned post oak and were notified that our Workhorse 1969 (wagon edition) would soon be delivered!
It was April 28, 2021, late in the evening, when the truck arrived with our pit. It gleamed as streetlights reflected off the dark metal. Oh man, this thing was incredible!! I rolled it down the driveway, into the garage, and then spent the rest of that evening there, drinking beer and staring at this beautiful new heavy-metal masterpiece!
The next morning it rolled easily—over small rocks, gravel, thick Spring grass, and up a slight hill—from the garage to the backyard and into “The Smoke Shack”. No problem! The “Tank” was in its new home and within no time, I had a fire going and the three shiny Tel-Tru thermometers quickly came up to temp.
Our first cook was a pork butt and it was fantastic! Since then, that pit has been used on average about once a week—from quick smoked/reverse seared rib-eye steaks, chicken wings, meatloaf, brisket, lamb chops, queso dip, mac ‘n cheese, and fire-roasted asparagus to full-on backyard parties for 30+ people with ribs, pulled pork, and more. Every cook seems to get better—both in food quality and flavor!
Then one day in 2023, I received a call from an area code I didn’t recognize. On a whim, I decided to answer it. On the other end of the line was JD, the owner of Workhorse Pits, with whom I’d spoken back in 2021. I was like, “What’s up, Man? What can I do for you?” He responded and asked, “Want to be a Workhorse dealer?”
Wait, what?!! I paused for a second, as I was a bit shocked; but then thought how great it would be for someone to see (and touch) one of these “beasts” in person before making their purchase, get it sooner, and have someone with experience using one to talk with about it. I didn’t have that and figured we could offer that for our Northwest region. So I said, “Sure, that would be awesome.” Quite a bit more conversation took place (obviously!); but hey, in the end, I said “Let’s move forward.” Then and there, Cascadia BBQ Supply began.
With that, Cascadia BBQ Supply is excited to be the Pacific Northwest retailer for Workhorse Pits! Coming Spring 2024, we look forward to meeting you and helping you select the best offset smoker for your backyard or commercial culinary needs.
